Tony Cain is running for the Republican nomination to serve on the White County Board of Commissioners representing District 1 for a four-year term. The primary will be held on May 7.
In a press release, RED PAC Chief Strategist Charlie Kolean endorsed Cain, listing him as a candidate that "shares our values of supporting private property rights, championing fiscal responsibility, and tirelessly working towards enhancing government transparency." Kolean said that Cain "[reflects] the conservative ideals that guide our efforts in rural economic development.”
According to a post on his campaign's Facebook page, Cain recently retired from a farm drainage and excavation business he had partnered in for 24 years. Prior to that, he spent 22 years as a farmer. He also owned and operated Brookston Hardware and Supply.
Cain is a lifelong Brookston resident who was raised on a farm in Round Grove Township. He attended Round Grove Elementary School and Wolcott High School, and he graduated from Tri-County High School.
Cain and his wife Michelle have been married for 35 years. They have four sons and six grandchildren.
The White County Board of Commissioners has authority to pass ordinances in a number of broad areas, including supervising road and bridge construction and maintenance, developing programs to cultivate economic progress, auditing and authorizing disbursements for the county, and appointing members to serve on various boards, commissions, and committees. The commission is made up of three members, each representing one district.
