Donald "Don" Street is running for the Republican nomination to serve on the Pulaski County Commission representing District 2 for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on May 7.

In a March 29 post on his campaign's Facebook page, Street listed supporting law enforcement, improving health care and emergency services, scheduling road repairs, providing necessary transportation services to residents, making housing more affordable, and promoting recreational opportunities nad economic development in Pulaski County as his focus areas.

According to a March 21 post on his campaign's Facebook page, Street has more than 33 years of experience in education, having been a teacher, varsity basketball coach, athletic director, principal, and superintendent. "I have seen the various facets of the way government affects the way we all live. I am currently responsible for over 500 employees and a $50 million budget," Street said. "My responsibilities of running a large government unit have given me the opportunity to be involved with building improvements, construction, contracts, policy development and implementation, and interpreting government regulations."

Street has been a member of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Merit Board since 2009, and previously served on the Community Foundation of Pulaski County in various positions. He is also a former member of the Economic Development and Steering Committee, former board member for the Pulaski County Purdue Extension, and has served on multiple committees under the Pulaski County Community Development. Street is current the vice president of the Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association.

Also in that post, Street revealed that he and his family have lived in Francesville since 2001, when he was appointed principal of West Central High School. He and his wife, Meleita, have been married since 1989 and have one son.

According to the Indiana County Commissioners, the county board of commissioners acts as the executive body of the county and shares legislative duties with the county council. The board of commissioners has the authority to pass ordinances in a number of broad areas, including supervising road and bridge construction and maintenance, developing programs to cultivate economic progress, auditing and authorizing disbursements for the county, and appointing members to serve on various boards, commissions, and committees. The commission is made up of three members, each representing one district, who are elected to four-year terms.
