Spartans Sweep Eagles in a Non-Conference Doubleheader to Begin 2023 Campaign

The Manchester University softball team swept the Asbury Eagles in a non-conference doubleheader to begin the 2023 season on Saturday, February 25. 

The Black and Gold earned a 5-2 victory in the first game of the day before following with a 9-2 triumph in the second game on Saturday.

SPARTAN STATS

  • Manchester scored first in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader following an RBI single by Delayne Sanchez (Osceola, Ind., Penn) and a two-run double up the middle by Brianna Morrow (Atlanta, Ill., Olympia). 
  • Morrow finished the day going 7-4 from the plate for MU. 
  • Junior Tori Blough (Huntertown, Ind., Carroll) allowed two runs, one walk, and 11 hits in six innings pitched.
  • Asbury plated the first run in game two of Saturday's non-conference doubleheader following an RBI single by the Eagles in the first inning.
  • The Spartans would score six runs in the second inning to take the five run lead early in game two. A two-run double by Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) and an RBI single by Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) would highlight the second inning for the Spartans. 
  • Carr allowed just one run and five hits in 6.2 innings of relief work for the Black and Gold.

UP NEXT 

  • Manchester's softball team will host Alma College for another non-conference doubleheader on March 14.
  • First pitch from the MU Softball Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
