Grace nabs pair of fourth-place finishes at CL race
Grace's cross country teams raced to fourth-place showings at the 2022 Crossroads League Championships on Friday.
The Lancers had four All-Crossroads League honorees (top-15 finishes), including two on the men's side and two on the women's.
The race was held at the Blue River XC Course in Shelbyville, Ind.
Grace's men's squad nearly had three All-League performers, putting a trio into the top 20. Bryan Hernandez-Rios claimed top honors for the men, finishing in 25:38 for a seventh-place finish.
Dimitri Margaritidis raced to a time of 25:55 for 11th place, and Logan Rufenacht just missed All-League with his 17th-place finish of 26:16.
Cole Johnston also concluded his race in less than 27 minutes (26:54).
The remainder of Grace's top-seven finishers came in quick succession. Caden Ringer (27:24), Brandon Kleber (27:32) and Justin Van Prooyen (27:35) ended their race in an 11-second span, and Hayden Mullett (27:54) was not far behind.
On the women's side, Kylie Sauder and Heather Plastow both nabbed All-League honors to lead Grace's fourth-place finish.
Sauder crossed the finish line in 18:39, placing 11th overall. Plastow was not far behind, finishing in 18:47 for 15th place.
Anna Hustedt was next for the Lady Lancers in a time of 19:34 (27th place), and Katie Acker (19:48) and Mallory Hiatt (19:49) finished neck and neck.
Morgan Welch finished next for Grace with a time of 20:16, and Caroline Kolb and Tara Friesen were step-for-step at 20:44.
Next up, the Lancers will move to the national stage. Grace will look to defend its men's and women's national crowns at the 2022 NCCAA National Championships, held Nov. 11 in Joplin, Mo.
The year will conclude with the 2022 NAIA National Championships, held Nov. 18 in Tallahassee, Fla.
