Lady Lancers cruise on Senior Day
A chilly and windy afternoon turned into a special one as Grace's women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day by defeating Manchester 7-0 at Miller Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lancers (6-6) honored Addy Jarvis and Gretchen Adams prior to the match.
Wind and a setting sun made for tricky conditions for the players, but Grace was able to seize the momentum early and carry it throughout.
Anna Graves and Addy Jarvis kicked off doubles' play with a dominant 6-1 performance. That was followed by an equally impressive showing from Gretchen Adams and Hallie Mast at No. 3 to secure the point.
Switching gears to singles, the Lady Lancers kept their foot on the gas pedal. Adams breezed through and blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to add to the tally. Mast and Graves scored the next two points, 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively, to clinch the match.
Lydia Ruegsegger overpowered at No. 2 singles to win in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Jarvis and Kiersten Martin rounded out the scoring to finish off the rout and complete the sweep.
Grace will send a group of ladies to compete in the ITA Regional Tournament, beginning on Sept. 28 at Indiana Wesleyan.
