Grace coasts by Stars

Grace's women's soccer team cruised in its match against Stephens on Thursday, winning by the score of 5-2.

The No. 17-ranked Lady Lancers (5-0-1) used goals from five different players in the rout.

Grace has now outscored its opponents by a combined tally of 29-2 this season.

The Lady Lancers pelted Stephens' goal with shots from the onset of Thursday's match. Grace fired off eight shots before 12 minutes of the match had expired.

In the 12th minute, Grace got on the scoreboard first courtesy of JJ Aalbue.

Marlene Menzel doubled Grace's lead with the squad's second goal in the 30th minute.

Grace went into halftime ahead 2-0; the Lady Lancers outshot the Stars 19-2 before the intermission, including eight shots on goal.

A trio of Grace defenders joined the scoring for Grace in the second half. Luna Gianotti netted the first goal of the second half in the 53rd minute.

The Stars managed to score on just their third attempt of the match, but the home team still trailed by two.

Grace found its fourth goal of the match from defender Lucy Schmitt.

Just over 10 minutes later, Amber Meade found the back of the net, finishing off a corner kick by Aalbue.

Grace had no trouble generating chances in the game, firing off 34 shots with 16 on goal. Grace also had seven corner kicks. The Stars were limited to six shots and one corner.

"We played deep into our bench today which gave us valuable intel on our team. Conceding two goals becomes a valuable lesson to keep our quality high at every moment," said Grace head coach Michael Voss. "The wide production of goals is a quality aspect of this group."

The Lady Lancers will remain in town until Saturday for a highly anticipated match against No. 18 Columbia at 1 p.m. Grace's men's team will also take on Columbia on Saturday in a pair of Top-25 battles.
