Lancers hit high marks in the classroom

The Grace College athletic department impressed for the 2021-22 academic year.

For the sixth straight year, all of Grace's varsity programs hit their academic mark by achieving a team GPA of 3.00 or greater. As a result, each team will qualify for the NAIA/NCCAA Scholar-Team award.

The department held an overall GPA of 3.41 across its nearly 400 student-athletes.

The women's tennis team claimed bragging rights for the highest GPA in the department. The Lady Lancers, coached by Emily Ackerman and Marcus Moore, boasted a stellar 3.72 team GPA.

Women's basketball (3.70) under coach Dan Davis and women's soccer (3.68) under coach Michael Voss finished second and third in Grace's athletic department.

Men's golf (3.63) under coach Denny Hepler, women's cross country (3.56) under coach Jake Poyner and women's golf (3.54) under coach Denny Duncan all eclipsed 3.50 during the school year.

"The academic excellence that our athletic programs achieve can be credited to the commitment and dedication of our coaches and student-athletes," said Grace's Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. "Our programs strive for Christian excellence in all areas, which includes both the academic and athletic realms. The Scholar-Team distinction for our programs is a tremendous reflection on Grace College. Our faculty play an integral role in the academic and spiritual growth of our student-athletes, and we are incredibly thankful for their work."

Grace's remaining Scholar-Teams include: women's indoor track and field (3.49), volleyball (3.47), women's outdoor track and field (3.47), softball (3.45), men's tennis (3.44), men's basketball (3.34), men's outdoor track and field (3.29), baseball (3.27), men's soccer (3.26), men's cross country (3.26) and men's indoor track and field (3.21).
