Men’s Tennis Earns First Win of Season over Olivet
The Manchester men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Olivet College 8-1 on Sunday, March 5.
The Spartans started the day by taking all three doubles matches.
The no. 1 pair of Austin Arnold (Coatesville, Ind., South Putnam) and Reece Romer (LaGrange, Ind., Lakeland) defeated Ryan Ganger and Trevor Lewis by a score of 8-5. The no. 2 doubles team of Brennan Beachy (Goshen, Ind., Westview) and Braydon Hoggatt (Union City, Ind., Union City) took their match in a dominant 8-1. The Spartans took the no. 3 doubles match by default.
The Black and Gold brought home five of the six singles points in Sunday's action.
At the no. 1 flight, Reece Romer dropped a hard fought match to Trevor Lewis in the third set with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-10. At no. 2 singles, Brennan Beachy won his match 6-0, 6-1 over Ryan Ganger. Omar Lemus (Portage, Ind., Portage) followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at no. 3 singles. Moving down the scorecard, Ryan Nastav (Lebanon, Ind., Lebanon) defeated his opponent at no. 4 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1. The Spartans picked up the final two singles wins at no. 5 and no. 6 by default.
Up next, Manchester men's tennis will travel to Anderson, Ind. to take on the rival Ravens on Saturday, March 11. Match time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
